  • Dr. Garcia completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center-Hines VA Medical Center.
  • He is Board Certified both in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pain Medicine and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
  • He is a fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine and the Wisconsin Medical Society.

He has presented at national medical conferences and published on one his main interests, functional outcomes of spinal cord injury rehabilitation. He has special interest in neurorehabilitation for brain injury, stroke and spinal cord injury, spasticity management and botox injections for spasticity of central origin, orthopedic rehabilitation, acute and chronic musculoskeletal and neurogenic pain, spinal diseases and electrodiagnosis.

He is the Medical Director of the Mercy Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, a 14-bed acute inpatient rehabilitation facility that serves the South Central Wisconsin area.

As a physiatrist, Dr. Garcia is well-versed in the multidisciplinary approach to patient treatment. He works with other rehabilitation professionals including physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, vocational therapists, rehabilitation nurses, prosthetists/orthotists, rehabilitation psychologists and social workers. He directs and coordinates rehabilitation treatments for patients to improve their functioning and quality of life. He emphasizes the active participation of patients in their rehabilitation treatment. As such, he takes special care in educating and counseling his patients about their condition and treatment options, and he also takes time to address patient questions and concerns to optimize treatment compliance and outcomes.

Dr. Garcia also performs various therapeutic and diagnostic procedures including EMG- guided botulinum toxin type-A chemodenervation for the treatment of spasticity, trigger point injections, peripheral joint injections and peripheral nerve blocks as well as EMG/NCS for the diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy, plexopathy and radiculopathy.
